Subject: [gd] HR 1955: Preventing ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism
(Darned if this legislation doesn’t sound like one of the 10 steps.)
Hi, America,
Are you worried about extremist beliefs, or ideologically based violence intended to advance political, religious, or social change?
I just wanted to make sure you knew about this proposed legislation which seeks to prevent it. It has passed the House 404 to 6, and now moves to the Senate.
United States House Resolution 1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007
Establishes a commission to investigate immediate and long-term countermeasures to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence, and measures that can be taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence from developing and spreading within the United States.
Establishes a university-based Center of Excellence for the Study of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism.
Protects civil rights and civil liberties while preventing ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism.
