(Darned if this legislation doesn’t sound like one of the 10 steps.)
Hi, America,
Are you worried about extremist beliefs, or ideologically based violence intended to advance political, religious, or social change?
I just wanted to make sure you knew about this proposed legislation which seeks to prevent it. It has passed the House 404 to 6, and now moves to the Senate.
United States House Resolution 1955: Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007
Establishes a commission to investigate immediate and long-term countermeasures to violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence, and measures that can be taken to prevent violent radicalization, homegrown terrorism, and ideologically based violence from developing and spreading within the United States.
Establishes a university-based Center of Excellence for the Study of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism.
Protects civil rights and civil liberties while preventing ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism.

Nothing to worry about. So they wanna establish a commission. Good. Keep ‘em busy doing nothing, instead of doing evil.

Remember the Meece Commission on Pornography? Isn’t it wonderful, how they had their hearings and Andrea Dworkin got to see her name in the newspapers again, and now there’s no pornography on the Internet? Same thing here.

Now if this CESVRHT Commission actually comes up with proposals AND those proposals are as ridiculous as we all know they will be AND the House and Senate enact them AND the President signs them AND the courts don’t stop them, THEN it will be time for the heebie jeebies. (Heck, they can’t even come up with a pronounceable acronym – are you SURE these are our congresscritters?)
